before attempting to get a Green Card or registering for the Green Card Lottery:
What is the Green Card Lottery Program?
Every year, the United States government grants 50,000 visas to individuals from eligible countries to work, study and live in
the United States as part of the Diversity Visa Program. Selected
at random from a computerized lottery system, Green Card Lottery winners that
get their green card may travel freely to and from the United States as they are
considered permanent residents.
Are there any changes or new requirements in the application producers for this diversity visa registration?
The USA Department of State will no longer accept paper entries or mail-in requests for diversity visa registration.
The Department implemented an electronic registration system in order to make the Diversity Visa process more efficient and secure.
The Department will utilize special technology and other means to identify applicants who commit fraud for the purposes of illegal
immigration or who submit multiple entries.
The USA\GCLA is fully compatible with the State Department electronic procedures.
What does DV 2010 mean?
DV stands for Diversity Visa, followed by the fiscal year of green card distribution
by the U.S. Government.
What happens if I get a green card? What does a Green Card do for me?
Green Card recipients may travel freely to and from the United States and are considered permanent residents. They
are legally entitled to work as well as health, education, taxation, retirement,
social security and other benefits and may also serve as sponsors for their relatives
seeking Immigration Visas (Green Cards). A Green Card holder may later apply for
United States Citizenship and still maintain citizenship in his/her country of
origin. Green Cards are valid for a lifetime.
Can my immediate family join me if I get a green card by winning the Green Card Lottery?
Yes, you can bring your spouse and any unmarried children (under 21) with you. They
will all get their own individual green cards.
